Sacré-Davey Group to participate in the design, supply, operation, and maintenance of the hydrogen fuelling infrastructure required for BC Transit's™ fleet of 20 fuel cell buses that will be rolled out in B.C. by 2010
North Vancouver’s Sacré-Davey Group (SDG) is proud to announce it’s participation with Air Liquide, HTEC Hydrogen Technology & Energy Corporation, and Hydrogenics Corporation to design, supply, operate, and maintain the hydrogen fuelling infrastructure required for BC Transit’s fleet of 20 fuel cell buses that will be rolled out in British Columbia by 2010. This will be the largest hydrogen fuel cell bus fleet in the world, the development of which is part of B.C.’s commitment to fuel cell technologies and the Hydrogen HighwayTM as part of the overall plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 33 per cent by 2020.
Sacré-Davey will provide Project Management, Engineering, and Permitting and Approval services for this initiative. The first fuelling station which is to be completed by mid-2008 will be located in Victoria at BC Transit’s Langford Transit Centre. The other station will be located at a new BC Transit facility planned for Whistler, to be completed by mid 2009.
The hydrogen will be supplied by two sources, water electrolysis using hydro-electricity and recovered waste gas from HTEC’s waste H2 processing plant. The well-to-tank green house gas emissions will therefore be minimal with the tank-to-wheel emissions being zero since the buses will be fuel cell powered.
This project together with the Integrated Waste Hydrogen Utilization Project (IWHUP) and the Vancouver Fuel Cell Car Program are providing the critical mass necessary to transition the local hydrogen and fuel cell industry into the pre-commercial phase. Sacré-Davey is proud to be part of this transition through participation in the BC Transit project and acting as the lead partner in IWHUP.
“This is a great day for clean transportation in Canada. BC Transit’s leadership in GHG reduction, commitment to clean air, and advancement of hydrogen technologies is world leading, and to be commended. The Sacré-Davey Group is proud to be working with consortium members to make this initiative a reality.” – Chris Sacré
